Little Utility with a Big Vision: Wastewater Problems to Water Supply Solutions at the Us Coast Guard's Tracen Petaluma
Abstract:The U.S Coast Guard's Training Center (TRACEN) Petaluma is the largest training facility on the west coast and home to the Coast Guard Leadership Development Center's Chief Petty Officer Academy. Like all federal installations TRACEN is charged with improving its longterm sustainability, but this facility has upped the ante by setting its vision on becoming the most environmentally friendly Coast Guard Base in the world. When the need arose to upgrade aging wastewater treatment infrastructure, the Coast Guard's vision guided a smart planning and design effort in order to produce a sustainable facility that serves multiple long-term utility system needs.
