Appropriate Use of Asset Information Management Solutions for Smaller Systems
Abstract:Asset management from a programmatic perspective is about adapting business practices to best facilitate the asset investment and reinvestment decision making processes. As asset management programs reflect the type of organization, the asset types being managed, and the regulatory environment within which the organization operates, there is no one size fits all solution for developing an asset management program within an organization. The challenges is identifying within the asset management body of knowledge those best practices that are most appropriate to the organization. This is particularly critical for smaller municipalities which are often out of the reach of initiatives trying to get the asset management message out into the wastewater sector. It is within this context that GHD has been working to provide staff in utilities within small towns in North Carolina with ideas on appropriate approaches to improving the asset management function within their utility; including working with over twenty small town utilities to develop an asset management plan.
