A Bioretention and Rainwater Harvesting Demonstration Project at Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources' Central Facility, Lawrenceville, Georgia
Abstract:The Gwinnett County, Georgia Department of Water Resources (DWR) is testing the effectiveness of Low Impact Development (LID) practices at their central facility in anticipation of more restrictive stormwater treatment regulations from United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). A master plan consisting of 30 individual LID practices was developed to store and infiltrate on-site the runoff volume from a 95th percentile storm event and eliminate the runoff volume and associated pollutant load. Through this project, DWR plans to study the cost and maintenance requirements for different LID features, and to monitor their environmental benefits. This project will be used as an educational tool for contractors and developers, and is included in Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) high performance green infrastructure demonstration project. DWR would like to further demonstrate on a national scale its commitment to excellence in the field of stormwater management and watershed improvement and assist the engineering and research community in advancing stormwater management technologies.
