Following an extensive pump station capacity testing program, the Louisville & Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) identified the need for a more comprehensive program to conduct condition assessments of all of the 286 sanitary sewer pump stations in its system. The condition assessment program was needed to confirm the data collected during the initial capacity testing program, to collect missing pump station asset data and to develop rehabilitation projects to improve both pump station operation and maintenance. The Drawdown Investigation Evaluation Team (DIET) was established to develop and implement this program. The process of completing this assessment program required upfront planning to ensure involvement of appropriate staff and allocation of the resources needed to complete the site assessments. More important is developing a program that is empowered to get results from the data collected pump station site assessments.
