Full Scale Phosphate Recovery: Process Control Affecting Pellet Growth and Struvite Purity
Abstract:Struvite formation as phosphate recovery has been demonstrated to be a proven full scale technology. An essential aspect for successful implementation is the production of a pure high grade granular struvite. Granulation is essential to obtain a product with free flow properties resulting in efficient handling and processing using existing equipment. Pure mineral struvite, not contaminated with organic residues, can be obtained by strict process control. The results of three full scale units are discussed and most important issues related to struvite quality and pellet growth are elaborated in detail.
