A Dangerous Situation Exposed With Private Property Laterals
Abstract:Over the past few years the Water Environment Federation's Collection System Committee (WEF) has been active in bringing the challenges dealing with private property laterals to the forefront. WEF has developed a Virtual Library housed on the WEF website offering information from multiple sources to assist the industry in better understanding the problems associated with the private property systems and providing examples of successful approaches taken to deal with them. At the same time the WEF has been ramping up its information sharing, a more deadly issue has been surfacing. This deals with the increased use of trenchless technology and the problem with locating the private property laterals. This issue is called a cross-bore and is just beginning to be understood.
