Abstract:

Impacts to wastewater utilities from the current economy include more than just reduced revenues, delayed capital improvement programs, and staff reductions. Many agencies are finding themselves targets of media attention as the public and elected officials struggle to accept the resulting rate increases, unfulfilled promises for system improvements, and diminished service. Managing the media during these uncertain times requires a well-conceived approach and a proactive game plan.
