Capturing Carbon Market Value from Coastal Wetland Protection and Restoration in Louisiana
Abstract:This paper describes ongoing work by the State of Louisiana, CH2M HILL, INC., and Equator LLC to develop methodologies that accomplish the following objectives:
quantify and determine eligibility of carbon offsets resulting from projects to protect and restore coastal wetlands;
access the carbon markets using those methodologies to provide a much-needed revenue stream to accelerate the wetlands work.
The team's goal is to facilitate the first coastal wetland carbon transaction in the world. The methodologies will be available for use by any organizations involved with restoration of estuaries and other coastal ecosystems.
