This can be a liability for the building owners and managers. Legionnaires' disease (LD), a preventable bacterial pneumonia, is the subject of strict legislation in western Europe and various focus groups in the United States forecast similar legislative action. Mechanical, physical, and chemical treatments exist to try to eliminate or destroy the Legionella pneumophila bacteria. The most effective of these is chlorine dioxide, but the major problem until now has been the fact that it must be generated on site. A new aqueous chlorine dioxide product eliminates the need for onsite generation, and can be dosed into the water with a simple pump.
