Abstract:

The hydrodynamic model RMA2 was applied to Louisiana's Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne, and extending into the Chandeleur Sound in order to evaluate the change of flow patterns, velocities, and scour potential due to the proposed construction of the IHNC Surge Barrier. The model was calibrated and verified at eight different locations within the project area. The measured data and predicted values agreed well in all cases and the model was used to simulate the change of flow conditions after the construction.
