Don't be Blinded by the Light: Determining True UV System Operation and Maintenance Costs
Abstract:The selection and procurement of an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system requires careful assessment of operation and maintenance (O&M) costs to accurately forecast required financial resources. Operational costs can be reasonably projected by performing a power demand analysis based on the predicted UV system configuration and local electricity rates. Presented in this paper are the different procurement processes and assumptions made for the City of Roseville;amp;#x0027;s wastewater treatment plants resulting in significantly different maintenance costs for its UV systems. The City's experience illustrates that care should be exercised when selecting and procuring a UV disinfection system, as assumptions are not guarantees.
