New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulates the discharge of the treated wastewater generated by a small elementary school in Jefferson New Jersey. The facility discharges to an unnamed tributary to Lake Shawnee. The NJDEP issued a new discharge permit for the facility, which imposed stringent discharge limitations for copper, zinc, and total phosphorus. The existing wastewater treatment plant required an upgrade to meet future permit requirements, and a new Membrane Bio-Rector facility was one of the alternatives evaluated for this small scale wastewater generator.
