Abstract:

Sludge management for wastewater treatment facilities has become increasingly challenging and costly, causing municipalities to consider many factors in their sludge management planning. Increasing public scrutiny on health and safety impacts of biosolids use, coupled with skyrocketing energy costs and the global movement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have given many municipalities ample incentives to reexamine their sludge management programs. In order to balance all these factors, an integrated approach is necessary to develop a sustainable program.
