Meeting the Low Total Nitrogen Discharge Limit Challenge Using Advanced Biological Anoxic Filter
This paper presents the use of advanced biological anoxic filter for denitrification to achieve low NOx-N and total nitrogen values of treated wastewater. Two pilot-scale studies are discussed with specific reference to the full-scale design aspects that incorporate considerations
of scalability and optimization of chemical usage (low carbon footprint). The studies were conducted under cold weather conditions to simulate the low temperature performance. The results indicate the technology is capable of achieving total nitrogen less than 3 mg/l and effluent NOx-N
less than 1 mg/l.
