The Impact of Sludge Retention Time (SRT) on Submerged Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor for Low-strength Wastewater Treatment
Three 6-L submerged anaerobic membrane bioreactors (SAnMBR) with SRT of 30, 60 and infinite d (denoted as R30, R60 and R∞, respectively) were set up and operated at HRT of 10 h. to treat low-strength synthetic wastewater. Regardless of SRT, total COD removal efficiencies higher than 98% and biogas yield rate of around 0.03 L CH4/gMLVSS·d were achieved. Fastest membrane fouling was observed in R∞, which was attributed to highest sludge concentration, highest SMP concentration, as well as highest ratio of carbohydrate to protein in SMP. For subsequent treatment of domestic wastewater, total COD removal rate above 83% was achieved. And similar effect of SRT on membrane fouling was founded compared to synthetic wastewater treatment.
