Computer-Based Analyses Using GPS Data Provide Quality Assurance for Sewer Main Maintenance

Abstract:Regular technical analyses of sewer main cleaning processes can provide important information to a wide audience within a sewer agency's staff: line employees, direct crew supervisors, maintenance section leaders, sewer utility managers, and technical consultants involved with the agency's sewer maintenance activities. These technical analyses involve use of daily geographical positioning satellite (GPS) vehicle data, daily Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) data, and the sewer system infrastructure' Information System (GIS) data. Utilizing these technical analyses, wastewater industry professionals can develop predictive procedures that provide critical quality assurance elements to improve their agencies' sewer system management activities using system-specific data generated daily by their field crews.
