Cost-Effective Training of WWTP Operators with Virtual Treatment Plant Models
Abstract:As treatment utilities throughout North America are faced with the departure a significant number of experienced personnel over the coming decade, managers are looking to various technologies to aid in the transfer of knowledge and experience from retiring staff to new people coming on board. Simulation-based tools for operator training are gaining popularity as a way to capture plant-specific knowledge, and then allow new staff to cost-effectively experience and absorb a wide range of plant behaviour. Case studies will illustrate how simulation-based training has proven to be a useful tool when used in conjunction with other knowledge management techniques.
