A field study was conducted to investigate the infectivity reduction of Giardia Lamblia cysts by the full scale UV reactors. The infectivity of G. lamblia cysts in wastewater was measured directly using a gerbil infectivity assay. Infectivity of G. lamblia cysts was found to be reduced by from primary effluent to secondary effluent following UV irradiation, but weak infection was detected from UV exposed cysts.
