New copper and iron impregnated nitrogen doped TiO2/Al2O3 nanostructured composites were prepared by sol-gel synthesis of followed by addition of iron and/or copper by incipient wetness and calcining. Of these new nanostructured composites only the copper impregnated nitrogen doped TiO2/Al2O3 composites was found to be an effective photodisinfection catalysts; however, it proved to be more effective than Degussa P25 in both visible and UV light for the inactivation of E. Coli K12.
