In order to optimize the management and control of ozonation in drinking water treatment plants, a thorough study has been launched concerning hydraulic of ozone contactors. This study aims to better assess the efficiency of disinfection and to guarantee good hydraulic performances
in order to reduce ozone production and ozonation-by products. Diagnosis of ozone contactors have been implemented on Veolia Water treatments plants in France, and the different existing calculation methods for microbial inactivation by ozone have been assessed. Nowadays, only numerical
modelling (CFD) or experimental tracer studies allow to determine the hydraulic efficiency of a given tank, which is quite long and expensive. Therefore the project team is working on the creation of a simple mathematical tool able to determine rapidly the hydraulic efficiency of ozone contactors.
