Managing Utilities in an Age of Unreason
Abstract:Utility Managers are charged with the responsibility for developing the vision and supporting strategies necessary for creating and sustaining a high performance organization. This is a difficult task in an age of unreason where change now happens at a lot faster pace and in a more hostile environment. New business drivers keep piling on before effective strategies can be formulated and implemented. Increasingly, utility managers are being held accountable for the performance of the Utility in a number of areas including: service levels, budgets, regulations, and the environment. This paper provides a unique perspective on managing utilities and provides guidance on four key strategies, an implementation process as well as potential benefits from adopting the suggested concepts.
