Outfall Disinfection Innovation: G.E. Booth (Lakeview) WWTP Mississauga (Toronto), Ontario, Canada
Abstract:Black & Veatch, the Region of Peel (Region), and Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) worked together to develop a solution, using the existing submerged outfall as a chlorine contact tank, to meet a non-acutely toxic effluent limit with respect to chlorine residual of 0.01 mg/L for a 518 Mld WWTP with a 3.4 peaking factor. The new system uses an on-land simulator to monitor disinfection reactions, to provide feedback control to dosing pumps, and to extract samples for regulatory compliance reporting. This solution is now being implemented for other WWTPs in Ontario.
