Grit Removal System Evaluation – Comparison of Testing Methodologies
Abstract:Wastewater treatment plants and consulting engineers are looking for ways to upgrade and optimize aging plants through system evaluations as the need for expansions and retrofits are planned. While established grit performance testing protocols have been practiced for decades, the influx of new service providers breeds variations in testing methodology, resulting in significant differences in findings. This causes confusion as to which testing methodology provides the most accurate system evaluation. This paper will explain what grit is, how grit travels in the flow stream, the differences in testing protocols and why the results vary so significantly, as well as provide wastewater treatment plants and consulting engineers with the information required for accurately evaluating a grit removal system.
