Abstract:

Hydraulic restrictions associated with the existing Miami-Dade South District Wastewater Treatment Plant (SDWWTP) significantly limit modifications to allow upgrades that will ensure that the facility can meet more stringent effluent requirements and address upcoming flowrate increases to 450 mgd. Multiples of treatment process units and uneven number of units from upstream to downstream process further complicate the modifications and their associated hydraulic analysis and design. InfoWorks CS, a hydraulic modeling software that addresses open channel flow distribution to the downstream process tanks as well as predicts the plant profile in each process tank, pipe or hydraulic component, was implemented. Field calibration was also required to ensure sufficient accuracy for optimizing use of the limited available energy in the existing hydraulic profile.
