Automating One-Call Utility Locating Requests Utilizing Dig-Smart
Abstract:Waterford Township, Michigan participates in the Miss-Dig One-Call Notification System that requires utilities to mark the location of the facilities that they maintain. There is one full time employee tasked with monitoring this system and responding to requests received. During busy summer months, the employee had a difficult time keeping pace with incoming tickets. Waterford Michigan brokered a partnership that developed a computerized system for receiving and processing requests for utility locating that interacted with a computerized maintenance management system to create work orders attached to facilities (drinking water and sanitary sewer). The resulting solution has greatly reduced the time required to respond to incoming utility location requests.
