Abstract:

Hernando County is a rural county with several localized Subregional Wastewater Treatment Plants (SWWTP). The County currently lime stabilizes the sludge and disposes of the liquid biosolids at land application sites. Due to the increasing hauling costs and the uncertain future viability of land application, the County has decided to dewater the sludge at each site, and haul the dewatered cake to the landfill.

The ultimate goal is to regionalize the County's wastewater treatment and reduce the number of plants by expanding the larger facilities and decommissioning the smaller facilities. During the interim period while the plant expansions are in design and construction, the County has decided to use mobile centrifuges to provide dewatering at some facilities. After regionalization has occurred, the centrifuges will become stationary components of regional dewatering systems.

This paper discusses the design constraints and design criteria involved to create the rotation schedules for the mobile centrifuges.
