The modeling effort, using the TOXCHEM+ fate software, was supported by a week-long inter-stage sampling program for total and dissolved forms of mercury, selenium and silver, which were not present in the existing TOXCHEM+ modeling database. Results of the sampling program were used to calibrate the fate model. The modeling effort showed that over 80% of the influent loadings of mercury and silver exited the plant in fly ash; less than 7% of the influent loadings of the two metals was discharged in the plant final effluent, while approximately 10% of the input loadings was retained in the ash lagoon. By comparison, just over half (58%) of the influent loading of selenium left the plant in fly ash, while 37% was discharged in the final effluent.", pages = "4864-4877", url = "http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/wef/wefproc/2008/00002008/00000011/art00034", doi = "doi:10.2175/193864708788804810" }
