Abstract:

Water and Wastewater operations commonly make extensive use of SCADA, GIS and mapping software solutions. Both GIS and SCADA involve data with a geographically distributed context. Although they can both benefit from information from each other and the technology exists for powerful integration with great potential benefits to water and wastewater operators and to their end users, today they often remain separate systems at many end user locations. GIS and SCADA systems are often implemented and maintained by separate specialized teams not necessarily cross-trained in both fields, leading to many companies missing on the potential that could be unleashed by their integration. This paper discusses a number of technologies that can potentially be used to accomplish integration between mapping, GIS and SCADA systems. A live demonstration by the author accompanies the corresponding presentation.
