Integrating Sustainable Design Infiltration and Inflow, Into CIP Planning for Bay County WWTP, Bay County, Michigan
Abstract:Municipal wastewater treatment facilities are among the most energy-intensive entities operated by local government. Reducing energy consumption and planning for energy efficient design coupled with the implementation of renewable energy sources offer the best opportunities for sustainable wastewater treatment design.
The Bay County WWTP has partnered with Tetra Tech to incorporate a sustainable design approach as part of their 20 Year Capital Investment Plan (CIP) for the facility. This project will summarize key opportunities for sustainable design to maximize efficiencies and innovation to move Bay County toward its goal of net production of energy, clean water, clean air and a productive human and biological environment. The goal was to develop specific programs that can be both green and provide a positive return on investment.
This project will approach CIP by evaluating and incorporating the most advanced and cost-effective sustainable design methods for Resource Management, Water Efficiency, Energy Conservation, Renewable Energy, Waste Reduction and Recycling and Green Building Design.
This presentation will focus on the approach and results of the planning that consider benchmarking, think tanks, cost/benefit analyses and “lessons learned”.
