Keeping the Sharks Out of Your Laterals: Fearless Private Lateral Rehabilitation
Abstract:This paper provides a general discussion of the significance of inflow and infiltration (I/I) into sewer systems through private sewer laterals. It then discusses the general legal requirements for sewer utilities to control I/I, including I/I from private sources. The paper goes on to discuss many of the key legal issues that utilities should consider when they seek to address I/I from private laterals. The paper concludes by highlighting private lateral programs from representative cities nationwide.
