Using Outlet Airborne Hydrogen Sulfide Concentration as a scrubber Control Mechanism

Abstract:

Control of chemical feed for an existing odor scrubber is alternated between the existing pH/ORP system of probes and controllers and the Sycamore CEM connected to a PID controller. The latter provided a single pump output signal so the bleach and caustic pumps were driven in tandem. Monitored parameters were pH, ORP, inlet H2S, outlet H2S, and 4-20 ma output to the bleach pump. The results demonstrated that the Sycamore CEM offers the ability to accurately maintain outlet levels of H2S at set-points as low as 0.030 PPM with far less fluctuation than when conventional pH/ORP control is used. Tighter H2S control should reduce maintenance costs associated with scale and sulfur deposits in the scrubber. Replacement of conventional pH/ORP control with the Sycamore CEMAC system also eliminates two liquid probes (and their associated maintenance) and controllers.
