Improving Biosolids Quality to Enhance Regulatory and Public Confidence – A Tool for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators
Abstract:Since 1993, the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) has coordinated a Residuals Workgroup – consisting of state and federal biosolids regulators from New England, New York, and New Jersey. The suggestion of developing biosolids sampling guidance for wastewater treatment plant operators was brought to the NEIWPCC Residuals Workgroup by the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NH DES) representative to the group. Due to similar experiences in other member-states and overall agreement on the need to develop easily-understood guidance, the project to develop biosolids sampling guidance was initiated. The guide that would ultimately be developed emphasizes pre-planning and coordination and encourages the development of biosolids sampling plans.
