Greenhouse Gas Mitigation: Policy and Regulatory Implications for Water and Wastewater Management
Abstract:Several U.S. states and cities have recently passed legislation involving greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation. As additional legislation follows and the likelihood of regional or national policy increases, it becomes important for organizations, both public and private, to understand the requirements and opportunities presented. This paper describes the current, proposed, and projected regulations on greenhouse gas emissions. It also discusses the opportunities for offsetting emissions to guide strategic planning for water and wastewater management organizations, and provides some potential examples of controls for onsite sources of GHG.
