Alexandria (Minnesota) WWTP and Cayuga Heights (New York) WWTP are both facing new discharge permits that include more stringent total phosphorus (TP) levels of 0.3 mg/L and 0.2 mg/L, respectively. An AquaDisk® cloth media filter pilot unit was brought to these sites for a period of three (3) weeks each. Results of the two (2) pilot studies demonstrate that the cloth media filtration technology successfully achieved the required effluent objectives under various operational conditions. Chemical addition of both metal salts and organic polymer prior to the filter was however necessary to achieve the required total phosphorus objectives.
