The Media Uncovered – Understanding Them So They Can Understand You - II
Abstract:What happens when a newspaper reporter changes careers and lands on the opposite side of an interview? Valuable lessons are learned that can help other water industry professionals manage the media effectively. Understanding the media from both sides of the interview process is critical to gaining balanced coverage and ensuring messages are clearly articulated. Translating technical jargon into meaningful language, using visual descriptions and analogies to convey a point, and respecting the journalist's role in reporting information of interest to the community are all key ingredients to a successful media encounter. This panel discussion will offer insights from both sides of the interview and provide tips for dealing with the media.
