The Delaware Department of Transportation has initiated a multi-year study of BMP performance at an interstate service plaza site. A number of different structural BMP retrofits have been installed at this site, including catch basin inserts, filtration and hydrodynamic devices, and bioretention cells. Wet weather monitoring is being conducted over several years to determine and compare pollutant removal rates. Assessment and monitoring of the stream to which runoff from the plaza is discharged is included in the study. Preliminary data indicate that these retrofits are having some benefit in reducing pollutant discharge to the stream.
