Abstract:

On-line process control often is important, and sometimes obligatory, for achieving performance objectives in wastewater treatment plant operation given the time varying influent loading. Investigating and developing control concepts is facilitated if we have the ability to simulate the controlled system; that is, to simulate the treatment plant behavior and also simulate the control system. This allows a range of features to be assessed before incurring implementation costs. A number of simple case studies are used to demonstrate the value of this approach.
