Abstract:

The City of Delphos Ohio membrane bioreactor (MBR) is one of the largest MBR's to go online during this past year and was not immune to startup challenges and issues. Communications and planning can mitigate most of the problems that may occur during start-up including bringing equipment online and dealing with the engineer, contractor and vendor representatives. Even with the challenges presented here, the plant has performed well and within its draft NPDES parameters. One of the largest problems with the startup of a new plant is in its operation once the plant is built and in service. The Operation and Maintenance (O&M) manual is supposed to fill that gap and be a reference guide for the plant operators. The O&M manual should be easy to physically handle, easy to read and dynamic in nature. It should be the first thing the operators reference when there is a question on the plant performance or behavior.
