Thunder Bay WPCP: Two Years of Operating Data from North America's Largest Two-Stage BAF Plant
Abstract:The biological aerated filtration (BAF) installation at the Thunder Bay Atlantic Avenue Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) is the first municipal installation of its kind in Ontario/Canada and one of the largest operating BAF installations in North America.
The two stage BAF system was started up in the fall of 2005. The following paper gives a brief introduction to BAF technology and the specific features of the installation. Further sections illustrate effluent characteristics, plant performance and further operational results since start up.
