Abstract:

Energy represents a substantial and rising cost for municipal wastewater facilities across the country. To help address these rising costs a growing number of wastewater treatment plant managers and operators are turning to energy-efficiency programs for technical and financial assistance. Over time the administrators of these regional, state and local energy-efficiency programs have learned a great deal about common opportunities to save energy within wastewater facilities as well as common market barriers to implementing energy-efficiency projects. In order to enhance the effectiveness of their programs, energy efficiency program administrators have come together through the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) to launch a national energy-efficiency program initiative focusing on the municipal water and wastewater sector.
