Abstract:

Recently, the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) hosted a workshop to map a collaborative research roadmap on trace organic compounds in wastewater, reclaimed water and receiving waters. Over 50 participants from over 30 different organizations, both national and international, attended the workshop. Participants shared their organizations' research plans (past, ongoing and future efforts) associated with trace organic compounds and worked together to prepare a draft research roadmap that was a compilation of these plans. Workshop participants discussed future collaborative efforts on trace organic compounds, recommendations for future inter-organization collaborations and guidelines for continuing the dialogue among different organizations after the workshop. In addition, the workshop provided an opportunity for organizations that are setting and funding research agendas on trace organics to identify partners for future collaborations and to initiate dialogue among these organizations that could be maintained following the workshop in order to share future research progress and findings on this topic.
