SUSTAINABILITY PRINCIPLES APPLIED TO BIOSOLIDS MASTER PLANNING
Abstract:Master planning of a biosolids management program for a wastewater treatment agency to address environmental, social, and economic concerns is a time-consuming, complex proposition. Using a Biosolids Sustainability Master Plan completed in 2006 as an example, this paper illustrates how Sustainability principles can be applied to specify program alternatives, judge their environmental and social merits, consider life cycle economics, and select a course of action that maintains and enhances program sustainability.
