Validated CFD Models of UV Disinfection
Computational Disinfection Models (CDMs) for UV reactors can consistently produce good agreement with bioassay data, yet questions remain regarding their ability to make accurate calculations in different hydraulic installations. We addressed this issue by doing well-blocked full scale experiments, where UV reactors (3) were bioassay tested in two significantly different hydraulic configurations. Each set of tests was modeled, and CDM calculations were done for each of the bioassay tests in each of the hydraulic configurations. Once validated against bioassay data, the CDMs were able to track the impacts of hydraulic changes on UV reactor performance.
