Deep oxidation ditches and aeration basins are beneficial, permitting more water to be processed on a given surface area. However, standard vertical shaft aeration rotors limit oxidation ditches and aeration basins to an operating depth of no more than 4.5 meters (15 feet).

The Dynamic Draft Tube Aeration Rotor overcomes the shortcomings of existing aeration rotors permitting operation of oxidation ditches and aeration basins of any practical depth. The Dynamic Draft Tube is an aeration rotor joined to a vertical pipe or draft tube. This assembly of rotor and draft tube rotates together. The viscous drag of the rotating surface of the draft tube imparts significant rotary motion to the water surrounding the tube. Rotary mixing action is uniform from the top of the tank down to the depth of the rotating draft tube. In addition, the aeration efficiency of the Dynamic Draft Tube is greater than that of an aeration rotor alone.
