AIRBEAM ROLLER STOCKPILE COVERS patents pending - PRACTICABLE AND REUSABLE SOLUTIONS FOR CONTAINMENT, PREVENTING ODORS AND REWETTING BY RAIN AND FOR ENHANCING FECAL COLIFORM DIE-OFF
Abstract:When organic resources are used on land they are generally stockpiled at the sites where they are going to be used and/or at the sites where they are produced. Stockpiles are vulnerable to wetting by rain, which can cause them to slump and in the worst cases to run; it can also result in leachate. When there is stockpile movement or leachate, pollution is a risk. When water is absorbed by a stockpile at a works, it increases the weight for recycling and consequently the cost. The materials become more difficult to spread. Stockpiles (whether at the production site or the application site) can be a source of odor nuisance. In many countries there is a legal requirement that stockpiles are securely contained. This paper will describe a product of research into finding solutions to these issues and a practicable, re-useable, easy-to-use covering and containment system that was proved during the research. An unexpected bonus was that the numbers of indicator bacteria (E. coli, equivalent to fecal coliforms) reduced much more rapidly under the Airbeam Roller Stockpile Cover (ARSC) than was normally experienced.
