BIOSOLIDS ECONOMICS: A CASE FOR CAREFUL ANALYSIS
Abstract:The economic analysis of the various biosolids management alternatives for a wastewater treatment agency requires a substantial amount of time, effort and resources to ensure that all alternatives are compared on an equal basis. Using a Residuals Management Study completed in 2005 as an example, this paper illustrates how specification of the alternatives to be analyzed, careful statistical analysis of historical operating cost data, selection of cost escalation factors, and a sensitivity analysis of life cycle costs can affect the selection of a biosolids management alternative.
