SLUDGE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS WITH BIOLOGICAL NUTRIENT REMOVAL
Abstract:For the past years most of the developments in biological nutrient removal (BNR) works focused on the biological wastewater treatment process. The significance of other treatment stages has recently come into focus with evidence that these can play a major role in producing low phosphorus and nitrogen effluent concentrations. This paper discusses the importance of solids handling units, their impact and optimization options available to improve mainstream nutrient removal process.
