THE BIOSOLIDS OPTION FOR FRANKLIN, INDIANA: ATAD, ALKALINE STABILIZATION OR BOTH?
The City of Franklin, Indiana completed a four (4) year study on the full scale operations of both the Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) and Alkaline Stabilization processes. The operational data, along with projected future solids production, are presented along with the economical analysis for future expansion of the Class A Biosolids operations. Based upon the data, the City has elected to expand the facility and implement the ATAD process to be followed with low alkaline fly ash addition for bulking to 50 – 60% dry solids in the final product. The project costs are estimated at 1.84 million to process 7,000 lbs/day of thickened WAS.
