INCREASING CAPITAL PROGRAM SUCCESS WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
When a capital program begins, proper design and well-timed implementation of technology can increase program success and help a utility to better manage its assets over the entire course of the asset's lifecycle. As an asset progresses through the phases of plan, design, build, operations, maintenance, and renewal, valuable data is generated at each step. The earlier a utility implements a system for managing that asset data, the better it will be positioned to perform the next phase of work. Too often, utilities spend years planning and designing a new treatment facility or major capital works project, investing millions in design and construction for a facility that may operate for 100 years, yet invest minimal time or money planning and implementing the proper systems and procedures that could effectively manage these assets over the long-term.
