AN EARLY WARNING SYSTEM FOR PLANT PROTECTION, PROCESS CONTROL AND REVENUES
An early warning system involving strategic use of sensors has been in successful operation for more than six years at the Hammond Sanitary District's (HSD's) publicly owned treatment works (POTW) for the City of Hammond, Indiana. The early warning system includes BioCoil™, which consists of a small, on-line aeration tank followed by an unaerated plug flow reactor and is equipped with sensors to measure pH, temperature, suspended solids, and dissolved oxygen. This paper describes how the early warning system integrated with the EAST process has helped us effectively manage the industrial shock loads and control process, while increasing plant revenues at the same time.
